Getting in "trouble" at Crossfit: WOD

Here is the wod we had programmed for today...

I made a HUGE mistake

Our coach said that this wod should go by pretty quickly, so if  a 35lb kettlebell was pretty heavy for you, to switch to a a lighter kettle bell!

WELL

I grabbed a lighter kettlebell, but talked myself down from using the next size down (26 lbs)
and I grabbed the 18lb kettle bell!

I did the whole workout unbroken and finished in 10 minutes....

It took everyone else who grabbed more appropriate sized kettlebells (heavier) about 15 minutes..

SO

Since I made it WAY to easy on myself, I was punished  challenged to do a D-Ball ladder

I had to do 5-4-3-2-1

Starting with 5 on the 40 lb d ball

4 on the 60 lb d ball

3 on the 80 lb d ball

2 on the 100 lb ball

& 1 on the 120 lb ball

(which I could not get over my shoulder)

I was pooped at the end!

But also I felt kind of special that my coach said I was "too strong" for the 18 lb bell after I finished the wod, and then challenged me 1 on 1 to make sure I got a good enough workout in!!

I am definitely feeling ALLOT better about myself at CrossFit and my abilities.

I just need to build up my SELF confidence, and not tell myself things are "too heavy"

I find that allot of the time I sell myself short at CrossFit, until some of the more experienced people or coaches see me and tell me to add weight to my bars or step it up...

Have you ever struggled with self confidence at the gym?

NEW Weekly Goals!

Operation Skinny Jeans

I'm totally LOVING this link party dedicated to setting goals for the week!

I've been needing some extra motivation these past few weeks now that my challenge is over!!

Goal 1:
Start off everyday with Yoga!

After my first yoga class in a LONG time last week, I remembered how much I loved it! (I am also very unflexible right now)
So to get back my flexibility (which will supplement my crossfit)
I am going to do 20 mins daily!!!

Goal #2:
Juice EVERY Morning!

I'm getting better at juicing - figuring out what flavors I like and what I don't like!
Also feeling how my body reacts to the juice!
So far I have found I felt GREAT when I juice right when I wake up, then eat a serving of nuts one and a half - two hours afterwards!

Goal 3: Be a better student....
I know, I know, this has NOTHING to do with my health/fitness goals....
But FINALS are next week and I need to spend less time thinking about healthy food/pinterest/crossfit & spend a tad bit more time studying...

(just this week) ;)

Brussels Sprout Salad!

Before I ever tried this salad, the only way I would eat Brussels Sprouts was roasted, as a side dish veggie!

One day on Pinterest I stumbled upon a picture of a Brussels sprout salad!

I knew I had to try it, and it is DELICIOUS!

You just have to treat the Brussels Sprouts like the mini cabbages they are!
Slice them thin from the top down & discard of the bottom/stem part...

Look how amazing the b-sprouts turn out when they are all chopped up!
Doesn't it look like coleslaw?

Then I assembled my mix ins!

Basically what I was going for was:
a type of cheese
a type of nut
a type of protein
& extra veggies

I used what I had in the house which was bacon, feta cheese & almonds!

It turned out so amazing!

This salad is def. going to be a good way for me to get extra veggies in!

What are the weirdest ways you have prepared vegetables?

Photo Diet & Unexpected Cheat Meal!

Breakfast: Juice 2 small red apples, 1 beet, 2 large carrots & 2 kale leaves

Lunch: Brussels Sprout Salad! (recipe coming soon!)

Snack: 1 cup cantaloupe & a handful of almonds!

 Dinner: Delicious Chinese food!

Why the random cheat meal?

WELL, boyfriend has the flu, and tonight I took him a smoothie and watched a movie with him while he was recovering....

Since he DEFINITELY did not feel like cooking, I suggested I take a cheat day and we order in some Chinese!

I ordered something called  Honey Chicken, and this is what arrived!

I ate about 3/4 of the chicken, no rice, the crab puff, & gave the egg-roll and leftovers to boyfriend!

Hey, sometimes you have to live a little!

Recipe: Purple Breakfast Juice!

I have been LOVING juicing lately!

Here is my new Favorite recipe I just had to share with you!

2 Small Red Apples
1 Beet
2 Large Carrots
2 Large Kale Leaves

(Makes 1 Serving)

Beets are my new ALL TIME FAVE juicing ingredient, isn't that color GORGEOUS!!??

Happy Friday Everyone!

Yoga at CROSSFIT??!!

That's right people, another reason for me to OBSESS over my CrossFit Gym!

Its no secret, I am NOT a flexible person!!

Which is why I have decided to try and make these yoga classes part of my weekly routine!

Our trainer was incredible:

Meet Kristin! My new Yoga Instructor!
"Kristin has become widely involved in sharing yoga with the athlete community. She is currently working with the ASU athletic teams, triathlete groups, sports rehab centers and Crossfit athletes." -EVCF CROSSFIT

With that being said(I did not read that well enough before class), I assumed this would be a relaxing yoga class (like some of the classes I have taken at Lifetime Fitness)

WRONG

Turns out when they say "Yoga for Athletes" its TOUGH STUFF!

I will proudly tell you I was drenched in sweat and very sore after taking her yoga class!

Here are a few of the things I have eaten the past few days:

 Chocolate Protein Quinoa Hot Cereal!
Made with quinoa flakes, almond butter, agave nectar, honey & chocolate protein powder!

Salad from a Community Garden Project I was involved in for my BIO105 class!
I LOVE gardening and LOVED the class!
Oh, and how great is it that we spent our last class harvesting a salad??

Me and my home grown veggies!!!

 snack apple slices!

 Breakfast Smoothie

Paleo Stuffed Peppers, SO SO SO YUMMY!!!!!!

And now, Off to fulfill my goal of MORE SLEEP!

BABIES! CrossFit Workout & What I ate!

My Boyfriends BEAUTIFUL niece Autumn was born today!!!

I just LOVE babies!

I also had a pretty awesome workout today:

In the beginning we used the D balls
(I think that's what they called them)
Basically you dead lift this giant, heavy ball into your lap and toss it over your shoulder!

You are scored by how heavy of a ball you manage to get over your shoulder for the last 3!

I WAS ABLE TO DO 100 LBS!!!!

I was SO excited because last time I worked with these I was only able to do 80 lbs!!!

Then  for the second part of the wod, it was a GREAT cardio workout!!!

The 35 lbs kettle bell swings were a little heavy for me, but I was determined to do this rx'ed!

I finished in 8.21!!

This was a great time for me and I was able to finish as one of the first people in my class!!!

Everyday that I show up to CrossFit I feel better and better about it!

Breakfast: 1 fried egg over cauliflower & 1/2 an avacado

Lunch: For lunch I made PROTEIN ICE  CREAM!  I was getting bored of the same - everyday thing. Sometimes its good to switch things up a bit!!!

I Just blended together 1 banana, some almond milk, protein powder & agave nectar, then threw it in my cute little ice cream maker!

Snack:
Dark chocolate covered fruit!

Dinner (unpictured): Chipolte burrito bowl, eaten in the car on the way to visit baby Autumn!
Lettuce, Guacamole, Chicken, Grilled Veggies & Pico!

So far, so good for this week! My body feels great & I definitely am ALLOT happier with my appearance lately!
